MEGUSTA FAM VIBES

Que pasa que pasa! Our favourite spanish fam phrase, am talking the megusta fam my great friends i can't trade. Amidst our post bushcraft blow out someone shouted hold up! You have to stop the musiq.News came in that some of the megusta fam  cronies had to go down to coast. was this a vibe killer? Of course not ! Well this turned out to be more interesting.

The weekend came by as Alejandro did his usual rude awakening as he headed bunduz but unfortunately for bunduzman something turned out awful. Well it never graveyard serious just food poisoning but bad enough to make him miss a rendezvous.

Well let the by gones behind , it all started when sparta called me bedridden and told me we had to catch up with megusta fam. Honestly i hesitated since you know what a running stomach could mean? Torn between loyalties i wanna go and i wanna chill. After my diagnosis and a couple of meds i was better that being on a Monday.

Next Tuesday i was better off and Wednesday i met Sparta and to my surprise he even booked the metro for me. Mad friends thing i admit. mos def i was already in it. sometimes you need a get away and from the bush the sandy beaches and palms would be ideal. Did i say some skinny dipping to rejuvenate this sunscreen burnt skin and unwind?

The beauty about it am a random person considering it was a weekend get away.Thursday i met with Sparta and embarked on our anticipated adventure .Rituals first and nyokabi was our day's kickstarter then bam we are javing to the metro.

Soon we are welcomed by 'Nairobi terminus' and we follow the protocol, luggage search by the so called 'afandes' (well police dogs are called officers- i love my country🤗🤗🤗  .The next thing we printing tickets and off to the last check into the terminus. Like i always insist there is magic on being early, we some trouble with Sparta!

The guards won't let me in despite having printed tickets and showing my conservation I.D. Well i speak to the manager and says it's a good thing we are early now 1330 hrs. Am being referred to mlolongo police station due to mt misplaced national identity card.

Off with Sparta we are out like mad men hoping next bike attendants and in a dash to the station. Luckily at the station we find this nice lady cop who attends timely and in a few we are out. Another trouble awaiting, 😭 Sparta is rocking his wide brimmed hat in the police station! It hits me when i see a cop faced stones infront of us asking us to collect litter and dump it. I signal sparta and quickly he takes off the hat as we leave.

Am longing to sit by now in the metro as Sparta passes for a nyokabi to calm our nerves. Now everything taken care of we check in this time no one probing us as we head to identify our seats in the coach. By exactly 1500hrs the train is moving mombasa inbound as everyone is trying to find the best solace.

we transverse mombasa from a different perspective , this time with a scenic sundowner view of Nairobi national park. Am talking behind rhino ark as heading towards the backyard of bamburi portland cement factory  spotting watering points and flora and fauna .

One thing i love about travelling by the sgr to coast is the less hours compared the long haul buses that imposed more fatigue. Another attraction for me is the views and the kind hospitality and diversity of passengers. My seat and Sparta's are far apart in different coaches but i ask the stewardess and she allows Sparta to swap seats with my neighbour as we enjoy the ride and spectacular views .

we beat through the savvannah setting tucked in localities of sultan hamud down to kibwezi and that`s when i alert sparta of my favourite geo location that being mudanda rock a clear indication we are now approaching Tsavo the biggest park in the country. Aerial views of historical landmarks like tsavo river brigde and the river cutting through the terrain am at solace unwinding in the terrain.

I really owe this to my mum who used to take me along with her in the old british kenya - uganda railway as the glances emanate nostalgia some from childhood. Down south we are arriving voi at about 1900hrs still in pursuit of our Miritini station . covid is still here so we are crossing finger we make it to our destination in time before curfew hours.

Exactly 2000hrs we are at the Mombasa terminus and it`s a hustle and bustle everyone trying to commute home. Fate is on our side as we just hack our van from the parking lot and at a liitle fee we are rolling. Am relieved as i enjoy the ocean breeze just wondering of the situation in mombasa old town. on arrival old town is moving smoothly as there is no much traffic and off we enroute to Nyali sides.

By 2130hrs we are alighting at the total gp carting track near severin as our fam ushers us in! what a euphoria but we have to freshen up and catch up as the rest of the fam is tired from a long drive in mida creek malindi and gede ruins. Despite it all it`s a vibe as we sleep outside as am drifting in the stary nights gazing and unwinding .

The next day we are amped as Nito wakes us for a morning beach walk as breakfast is being prepared. Time to connect with the marine ecology as it is serene and not crowded. Euphoria preceeds our purpose as we play in the ocean water just like child play enjoying the sunset painting the white sandy beaches in an ambient orange golden mood. what a magnificent view but we have to grab our breakfast.

Back  we are treated to our surprise as my buddy delivers some sumptous mahamris with mbaazi za nazi na tui to down it. it`s a jamboree early morning in the serene lush green palm and coconut setting  tucked in ambience of aves twittering. we catch up for a while and an hour later we leave for marine park but sparta and i have done it so many time so we relax in the beach . It`s completly  satisfying and fulfilling for a break off everyday`s  hustles .The sun is out 32 degrees high so a swim is inevitable.

What beats a spectacular view of the hotels as the breeze hits you in the water in the ambience of Friday adhan prayers a total reminder of where you are. Well the swimming sessions are fun filled to a point we don`t wanna leave here. A phone call interupts us as our cronies join us from the marine park and it`s a blast . As the boats dock some on the move so are we in the waters lost in our own get away.well is there fun without a group of friends ?

The heat can be quite draining so we opt to sample so swahili dishes and refreshments blending with the locals who are cordial  and very entertaining . For a moment i feel like am in my other country Tanzania / zanzibar beach as the decor colours match it . it`s a weekend of spreading good vibes as Alejandro and team perform their life of the party stunts and it`s a win win for all sipping on carefully crafted swahili brew in style of bamboo straws and amazing presentation.

It`s one of our favourite buddy`s birthday so we toss it up for her and represent wishing her more life of friendship, peace and prosperity. Am in tune with the universe here i don`t wanna leave but a swim off and on on is essential to cool off as we beam to the nice grooves.

Time flies so fast when  having a good time ! we are joined by other friends and before we know it`s almost 2100hrs and curfew is here so we have to relocate to our suites. what an incredible experience from sheer simplicity and local appreciation .We go continue with our vendattas , having lots of  laughter and memories as we retire to bed some of us early for voi ` theatre of wildlife' game drive. Next morning the inevitable happens as Sparta and i still enjoy the beach .

well time flies! so the next day we are out checking in for our Nairobi inbound metro. The president of the republic has just announced a state of lock down something that has shocked many and so it`s a hustle and bustle before getting locked out .
From a tourism and wildlife  manager perspective the  situation at the kenyan coast is alarming and worrying as hotels lack tourists due to covid -19 third phase, the locals are left in despair as there are no jobs making beaches looking vacated, it really an eye-sore situation and shocking! let`s be positive of the vaccines and bear optimism that the tourism sector will recover.
